Burmester is releasing four new wines on to the market – two whites from 2017 and one red from 2017 and another one from 2016.

DOC Colheita Burmester and DOC Tavedo mark the launch of Casa Burmester’s new image. The main challenge was to combine a long history that goes back to 1750 with the modern concepts of elegance and sophistication that are the characteristics of Casa Burmester. Its new image reflects this history and character, with graphic lines and colours chosen to reinforce the brand’s values.

Under the seal of Casa Burmester, the brand Tavedo is released on to the market for a more immediate and relaxed occasion.

‘Respect Douro Superior Cima Corgo terroirs and pass on to the wines the character of the traditional grape varieties of the region’ were the objectives of Ricardo Macedo, the winemaker of DOC wines at Sogevinus Fine Wines. ‘Our aim is to have minimal intervention in these wines, in which we have preserved the pureness of the fruit and the primeness of the schistose soil’.

History

Burmester takes all the legacy of a region full of tradition and history and projects it in a cosmopolitan and sophisticated way. With a defiant take, it was able to cross borders very early on, and today it is recognised in several markets as a prestigious brand of Port. Burmester has been iconic since 1750.

Vineyards

The schist-rich soils, the steep hills, and the harsh climate of very hot summers and freezing winters do not make for an obviously fertile land. But the 2000-year-old history of wine culture proves otherwise.

Winemaking

The character and identity of each brand is something we do not touch. They are secular insignias that have survived in time for their identity. The rare interventions are made in an attempt to improve some aspects, but the main challenge is to always maintain the quality because these wines are internationally recognized.

For the Oenology team of Port Wine, is having a huge responsibility at hand. They have the grace of working with gold reserves, wines elaborated in the past and left in legacy so that today they can work them.

These reserves are a rare inheritance, with enormous capacity of aging and to which one owes a deep respect. They are also a challenge and motivation for Sogevinus winemakers to prepare new gold reserves for the next generation. If we want to care for the next five centuries of wine, this work can not stop.
