Cable Bay Vineyards began with the vision to hand-craft wines from the highest quality fruit, grown in small lot vineyards located in the most desirable places for their respective varietals. We have selected three locations within New Zealand – Waiheke, Marlborough and Central Otago that we believe are able to produce exceptional wines.

Waiheke Island, Auckland

Waiheke Island as a wine growing region is very unique to say the least. The vineyards of Cable Bay are situated at the western end of the island atop a bedrock of ancient sandstone and mudstone from the Jurassic period. The soil that blankets the Jurassic rock is composed of mainly weathered rock and iron rich clay. Beautiful minerality and texture in the wines are a result of this geology.

Our winemaking philosophy is to lovingly produce wines with their own unique and individual “personality” that will capture the drinker’s imagination. To achieve this, we grow grapes in our own, carefully selected vineyards in the most desirable locations of New Zealand; Waiheke Island, Marlborough and Central Otago. Each vineyard is planted with varieties and clones ideally suited to that unique site and climate.
