History

Founded in 1967, Carpineto is a partnership between Giovanni C. Sacchet and Antonio M. Zaccheo, whose original mission was to produce a world-class red wine from the Chianti Classico appellation. This was a radical departure from the marketplace of the times when most Chianti was still produced in the traditional winemaking style. Carpineto’s visionary founders recognized the untapped potential of the Tuscan landscape to produce truly great wines. By applying modern viticulture and winemaking techniques, they dramatically exceeded the quality standards of the day. Under their leadership, Carpineto developed an award winning, international reputation for elegant wines of approachable intensity and extract, as well as consistency vintage after vintage. Today Carpineto has reinforced these characteristics, while maintaining an approachable wine style due in part to an extensive bottle-aging program. In fact "riserva" wines are bottle-aged a total of six to twelve months longer than the minimum time required by DOCG appellation rules.

Today experimentation goes hand in hand with the spirit of innovation of the founders, with respect for historical Tuscan values. The product line includes wines from the most prestigious Tuscan DOCG appellations to varietal specific wines of great structure, as well as innovative proprietary blends. Carpineto exports the majority of its wine production to over 70 countries worldwide. About 95% of Carpineto’s wine production is red wine, with the majority being wines that are aged three or more years before their release date.

Winemaking

Carpineto wines are time tested guarantees of top quality, known by consumers worldwide. Founded in 1967 by the Sacchet and Zaccheo families, the estates are managed with enthusiasm, sensibility and ‘know-how’, but most of all, with the will to continuously improve.

Carpineto is guided by it’s own deeply rooted production principles complemented by those of the appellations in which it operates. Vineyards are managed according to sustainable, low impact farming principles, winemaking techniques respect the natural processes that transform grapes into wine. This combination gives birth to elegant wines of great longevity, that are a true representation of their territory, neatly displaying the character of each vineyard and appellation. Production techniques are not based on old “wife’s tales”. They are based on the mastery of viticulture and winemaking sciences that, together, bring exciting yet reliable wines to market with a good price to quality relationship.

Carpineto’s production statistics are as follows:

  • 95% red wine with the majority aged three or more years before release;
  • HL 58,000 (1.5M gallons) winery capacity;
  • 88% estate grown grapes;
  • 3,0M bottles produced annually.
