This magnificent estate of 10.6 hectares, ideally located on the edge of the village of Saint-Emilion, derives its name from a clergyman, Canon Balestard. Vineyards

The 10.6 hectare vineyard of Chateau Balestard La Tonnelle is located just outside the town of St. Emilion. They are not far from Chateau Soutard, Chateau Villemaurine and Chateau La Couspaude. The terroir is a mix of clay and limestone soils. The vineyard is planted to 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines average 33 years of age.

Winemaking

Utilization of new fermentation and aging techniques, traceability-each barrel is coded and traceable to a parcel, pre-fermentation cold maceration, the time of cuvaison is of minimum 3 weeks according to vintages. Barrels: 50% new oak, 50% one year, malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Ageing in barrels: 15 to 18 months. Filtering: Only on pads before bottling. Annual production (average): 55,000 bottles
