History

Château Clos René dates back to 1734, when it was known simply as 'Reney'. The Château lies to the west of the major properties in Pomerol, just south of the appellation Lalande de Pomerol, in the hamlet of Grand Moulinet. Château Clos René has belonged to the Lasserre family for 6 generations and today is run by Pierre Lasserre and his grandson Jean-Marie Garde with Michel Rolland as consulting oenologist. Vineyards

The 29 acres of vineyards lie on sandy gravel and iron scale subsoil. The vineyards are unusual as they include Malbec – or Cot as it is known in France. The grapes grown are 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Malbec.
