History

Today, the Château de  Panigon extends its estate on 90 hectares in AOC Médoc, situated around and near the Château, 53 hectares are currently planted and in production. Château produces two wines, both in Cru Bourgeois, Château de Panigon and Château Amour.

The estate of Château de  Panigon stills be family owned. Since 2006, the daughter and the son-in-law of the owners, Corinne Leveilley Dadda and Georges Dadda have taken over the management of the Château, determined to produce red wines aimed at excellence in the purest respect of the Médoc tradition.

The desire of the new management, thanks to numerous investments, is part of an approach of modernity and quality, in order to take the best from the exceptional terroir. In 2016, Château de Panigon obtained the HVE - High Environmental Value- label, a guarantee of quality and respect for the environment.

Since 2016 famous oenologist Eric Boissenot consults the estate.

History

The word "Panigon" appears for the very first time around 1534, under the pen of the french writer Rabelais in his novel Gargantua and Pantagruel.

As a great wine lover, Rabelais tells the story of Panurge and Pantagruel, on their way to consult the oracle of the Dive bottle, and their reception by the king Holy-Panigon on the island of Chely.

The origin of the Vineyard of Panigon is previous to the French Revolution.

The first edition of the guide Cocks in 1850, titled Bordeaux and its wines mentions Panigon. The following edition printed in 1868 qualifies Panigon vineyard among the Crus Bourgeois.

Vineyards

The vines are situated in the village of Civrac - en - Médoc, North-West of Lesparre-Médoc and an  hour from Bordeaux. They benefit from the oceanic influence of the nearby Atlantic Ocean as well as from  their proximity to the Gironde estuary, which together create ideal climatic conditions for the optimum development and maturity of the grapes.

Composed of 45% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 50% Merlot and 5% Petit-Verdot, the vineyard flourishes on gravelly hillocks on some of the best terroirs in the Médoc. The wines are characteristically well-structured and supple with silky, well integrated tannins – wines of elegance.

All treatments are based on weather conditions and sanitary condition of the plots. According the vinatage, the green harvesting is made to make raisins ripe better.
