History

The Château La Ganne has been exploited for four generations by the Dubois-Lachaud family who have endeavoured to enhance their terroir with passion. Nowadays, Paule and Michel work hard to ensure continuity.
With its 750 ha, Pomerol is considered as one of the smallest appellations in Gironde in terms of area but as one of the most famous in terms of quality.

The Château La Ganne wine is typical of Pomerol. With its appealing and feminine character, refined and powerful at the same time, the Merlot is a wine that can age, but can also be enjoyed young. This characteristic offers a large range of gourmet harmonies, with delicate dishes as well as simple meals.

  • 2012 : A fine and mouth watering wine , powerfull, velvety, very nice aromas of red fruits with good tannins. Very nice success for this merlot for tasting 4 to 10 years of ageing
  • 2013 : After a selective of our grapes, a smoothly vinification to product an elegant wine, velvety and fruity, this vintage is a pleasure wine to drink in its youth within 5-6 years.
  • From the vintage 2014,  Château La Ganne changes its label
  • 2014 : Silky and elegant tannins, a beautiful concentration of red fruits.  A pretty expression of the merlot all in smoothness, ripe and exceptional cabernets francs. A fine and mouth watering wine to drink ideally 4  to 12 years.

Vineyards

Situated in the south west of Pomerol, the Château La Ganne is an average property of 4 ha . An appellation that could make a wine lover out of anyone. Composed of a topsoil made up of grave land sandy deposits and a subsoil rich in « crasse de fer », the soil has a fascinating geological composition that gives our wine its exceptional velvety tannins and its delicate aromas. Our vineyards are traditionally ploughed carefully respecting the nature of the terroir and of the plant. This respect of the environment leads us to culture our whole vineyard sensibly. Merlot vines, the king of Pomerol, accounts for 90 percent of vines planted while the last 10 percent planted are Cabernet Franc. Here the harvests are done manually and a vibrating table MISTRAL accelerates and levels the harvest : berries and waste acquire then different trajectories ; efficient system to purify the harvest. We try hard to keep only the best of the grape.

Winemaking

he vinification endeavours to gently reveal the richness of our grapes by long thermo-regulated macerations.
The ancestral vineyard savoir-faire inherited from our parents and the use of the most recent technology results in the elaboration of a wine of character.

The elevage of the whole wine, during twelve months, in new oak barrels for one third will make it possible for the wine to get its elegance and its complexity. A simple fining with fresh egg white will lead to the bottling in the Château, eighteen to twenty four months after the harvest depending on the vintages.
