History

Seventeenth century castle Located on a feudal mound with a small Merovingian strong. A Grand Cru, aim the small vineyard, consistant en 8 hectares in a single area, is a family run operation. One of The Highest point in the label near the town of Sauternes Offering a panoramic view of the Gironde, Landes area.

Before being taken over by the Despujols family in 1961, the property exchanged proprietors over the years and never really stabilized. Today, with the vineyard in the hands of the skillful Despujols and their 50 years of experience in producing Sauternes, one of the most challenging wines to produce in the world, they have their sites set on the 21st century. With a trend leaning towards more rewarding vintages each decade and a renaissance in the heritage of Sauternes, Chateau Lamothe remains one of the classic expressions of a fruit forward and balanced Sauternes, as well as, consistently being noted as one of the great values in the appellation.

Aroma:   Honeysuckle and Peaches

Tasting Notes:   Citrus fruit, lime zest, acacia blossom and overripe peach that is beautifully intertwined with good mineral structure.

Food Pairings:   Caramel creams, pineapple cheesecake and of course Foie Gras and other mousse of liver.

Grape Variety:   85% Semillon, 10% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Muscadelle

Alcohol Level:   14%

Vinification:   Hand picked on 5-6 successive occasions to select only concentrated botrytized grapes, transportation in wooden tubs, press filled by racking process, pneumatic pressing, juice selection, fermentation lasting 30 to 45 days in French oak barrels. Matures 5 months on total lees with batonage.

Notes/Facts:   Guy Despujols has been running the estate since 1989, investing his fierce devotion, enthusiasm and stubborn determination into producing this great wine.
