History

Since 1975, after six generations, Bernard Lartigue, winemaker and master of the estate, has been perpetuating the Medoc values specific to his family patrimony on his Bordeaux vineyard. Rigorous, demanding, perfectionist, he is constantly on the lookout for excellence.

This leads him to obtain the best potential of his 22-hectare estate, in order to develop a great wine, with a very long aging ability while maintaining its belonging to the land and developing a unique signature and identity.

Bernard Lartigue has brought to his production all his expertise and audacity. The knowledge of its 42 parcels and the respect of the traditional work on the ground allow it to reach the right balance between powerful aromas and elegant structures. Behind its great wines lies the authenticity of the terroir of Listrac.

The wines of the Château de Mayne Lalande have been presented to great restaurateurs, wine merchants and traders, in France and abroad, from the year 1982. They have been introduced on the Place de Bordeaux since the 1995 vintage.

Their quality has seduced traders, consumers and celebrities: Pierre Perret, Patrick Timsit, Catherine Ceylac, Jacques Higelin, etc., appeared in the castle.

True emblems of culture and gastronomy Médocaines, these red wines are served at the table of the Presidency of the Republic.

By passion and willingness to share the wealth of its terroir, Bernard Lartigue has taken up a new challenge by creating a guest house in the heart of the vineyard of Mayne Lalande, for an exceptional moment in a calm and warm environment.

Vineyards

The wine-making area of the Listrac-Médoc terroir is composed of a ridge of Pyrenean gravel, a layer of Garonne gravel and a clay-limestone plateau. These make the richness of this terroir and guarantee the unique aromas of Bordeaux grape varieties.

These grapes are of a unique quality typically Bordeaux. Merlot adapts better to the clay-limestone soils that give it a fruity and unctuous taste. Cabernet Sauvignon owes its black fruit aromas and impetuosity to dry, deep soils. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, one fine and fruity, the other intense and slightly spicy, are planted on the hottest and gravelly soils, with short-cycle rootstocks to optimize ripeness.

Winemaking

Green harvest, manual leaf stripping, fertilization with homeopathic dose after analysis, no contribution of nitrogenous matter. The perfect knowledge of the terroir allows a respect of each plot and a production of rich and aromatic wines.

At the approach of the harvest, the grapes are tasted individually so that their maturity is followed closely. The harvest is done by hand and the careful sorting of each grape is done both in the vineyard and in the winery.

After destemming, we proceed to the tank. We carry out cold preferential fermentations (12 days at 8 ° C) to extract the color and the fruit gently, respecting the grapes. During fermentation, the temperatures will be between 28 ° and 30 ° homogeneous. The fermentation changes according to the vintages in order to extract the best tannins, very long and very fine, for more concentrated wines. The choice of extractions depends on the daily tastings of each vat in fermentation.

The maceration then lasts from 15 to 25 days, with a daily taste monitoring. The malolactic fermentation can be carried out in barrels.
Wine breeding

The choice and the duration of the breeding are determined according to the vintage, the grape variety, the age of the vine and the power of the wine, but it lasts in general from 14 to 18 months. The wine is meticulously followed day after day to ensure the elegance and finesse of each of our wines.

To separate the wine from its lees, rackings are regularly made from barrel drums. The collage and filtering guarantee a beautiful dress to each of our wines.

We obtain two cuvées: one of the first wine under the name Château Mayne Lalande and one of second wine under the name Château Malbec Lartigue, renamed Émotion de Mayne Lalande.
