Vintage 2016 All’s well that ends well…more or less.

Following several years of low yields owing to hailstorms in 2012,2013 and 2014, it was a relief to have a calmer year – in advance but exceptionally sunny - for the 2015 vintage; this year enabled both us and the vine to return to more normal conditions.

Vineyards

Located between the better known villages of Volnay and Meursault, Monthelie has a small, total surface area of 129 ha and has gradually built up its reputation for the quality of its red and white wines.

Winemaking

The estate’s mostly older vines are cared for as naturally as possible; soils are plowed and no herbicides are used. Harvest is by hand and grapes are sorted: once in the fields, and a second time on a sorting table at the winery.

For the whites, grapes (whole cluster) are pressed then fermented in French oak barrels. Wine is also aged in barrel, with around 25% new oak, depending on the needs of the vintage.
