History

The heart of the winery lies in the large 18th century house with its understated yet majestic lines, very close to the historic centre of the village of Verduno.

Gian Battista, his wife Flavia, brother Alessandro and son Vittore are the proud custodians of the family’s winemaking tradition and passion, which date back over a century, and represent the seventh and eighth generations of winemakers (the first three generations as Fratelli Dabbene and then as Fratelli Alessandria following a marriage which took place in around 1870).

The winery vinifies only estate grown grapes and has maintained a family dimension. These qualities make it possible to establish a direct and “personal” relationship with the individual vineyards and barrels, an invisible but important connection that we hope will reach and inspire consumers when they drink our wines.

Fratelli Alessandria is one of the most long-standing wineries in the whole area, having already been operational around the middle of the 1800s, at the time of the birth of Barolo.

Vineyards

The fifteen hectares of vineyard owned by the winery are its real assets and are located in some of the finest crus in Verduno. We have decided to focus exclusively on native grape varieties, mostly red. Alongside Nebbiolo, there are Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa and the singular Pelaverga piccolo, which has found its ideal habitat in Verduno. The only white grape is Favorita.

Monvigliero

Because of the fame of the wines produced and its history, Monvigliero can be considered the real “grand cru” of Verduno.

The position occupied is to the north-east of the village. The hill is exposed to the south, with the vineyards taking the shape of a natural amphitheatre, at an altitude of about 300 metres. The soil in this area is rather loose, consisting of fine white marl.

San Lorenzo

The first vineyard that you come across along the road from Alba to Verduno. A hill very close to the River Tanaro, which plays a very important role in terms of microclimate.

Our vineyard enjoys southerly exposure and is located at an altitude of between 240 and 260 metres.

Riva Rocca

Positioned just below the village, in terms of landscape this vineyard is definitely one of the most beautiful in Verduno. It enjoys excellent exposure and a rather marked slope.

Winemaking

Our extensive winemaking experience and our unconditional love for the Langhe, supported by constant attention to technological innovation and the evolution of agronomic and oenological knowledge, form the solid basis for obtaining wines that fully respect the tradition and cultural values of the territory. Wines that are a true expression of the typicality of the grapes they come from and the unique nature of the terroir in which they originate.

Inside information

Welcome to the heart of the Langhe, to Verduno! Welcome to our exclusive hotel, a very special place, a shared dream.

A dedication to the spicy elegance of Verduno’s wines. A place rich in artistic charm and sensory emotions where we will be delighted to welcome you.

The closure of a circle opened almost 200 years ago – in around 1830 – with the birth of the Fratelli Alessandria winery, which represents the intrinsic mission of a winemaker: that of fully expressing a terroir’s beauty and unique qualities.

“Speziale” because we have always believed in the wines that are local to the area and Speziale is the name we have given to our Verduno Pelaverga.
“Speziale” because it is special to us and to our guests.
“Speziale” because it represents the spicy elegance of Verduno… You will be immersed in an elegant world of spices and aromatic herbs, steeped in the aromas that can be found in the elegant wines of our territory.
