L'Avenir

The L'Avenir estate was founded by Mauritian-born, Marc Wiehe, in 1992; prior to which the land was growing fruit for the long-established Nederburg Wine Estate in Paarl. L'Avenir swiftly rose to icon status, domestically and abroad. The 1997 L'Avenir Chenin Blanc was ranked best in the country at that year's Chenin Blanc Challenge. L'Avenir has a rare quality, even for Stellenbosch: a 27-hectare vineyard that has reached full maturity, where the vines naturally produce limited yields of the highest quality grapes. Some of the vines are over 40 years old and enable the production of wonderfully complex wines.

L'Avenir wines are made with respect and a particular accent on balance. White wines are fermented and matured in stainless steel tanks to preserve their aromatic qualities. Reds are vinified in stainless steel tanks and often then partially matured in French oak barrels, to enhance their elegant character.
