Matarromera Prestigio Recognized as the Best Red Wine (Old World) in China

A Spanish wine, specifically Matarromera Prestigio produced in Ribera del Duero, has been prized with The Best Old World Red Wine by the prestigious international QWINE competition. These awards were organized within the framework of the QWINE Expo Fair that was held in the city of Qingtian in Zhejiang province of China, from November 17th to 19th.

Bodegas Matarromera are found right in the heart of the Ribera de Duero. Its facilities are partially buried in the north hillside of the Duero Valley with beautiful views that towers above the whole valley of the municipal district of Valbuena de Duero in Valladolid.

Most of its 80 hectares of vines are Tinto Fino variety, with a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All the vines are situated in the best terroirs around Olivares and Valbuena de Duero.

In keeping with the wine-making tradition of his ancestors, Carlos Moro decided, in 1988 to renovate the vines, and built a new cellar, where top quality Crianzas, Reservas and Gran Reservas are now being developed.

Grape Varietal: Tinta del País, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Vineyards Growing System: Trellis System and in bush form.

Grape harvest: hand-picked in boxes of 20 kilograms.

Barrels: 2,000 American and French oak barrels.

Output: Annual average of 325,000 litres.

Types of Wines: Grandes Reservas, Reservas and Crianzas.
