NATIVA, part of Santa Rita Group recognized as "Certified Sustainable Wine of Chile".  December 2011

The Santa Rita Group, which in Chile includes the Santa Rita, Carmen, Terra Andina, and Nativa wineries, received certification that validates its vineyards as “Certified Sustainable Wine of Chile,” thereby becoming the first of the country’s largest wine groups to receive the acknowledgement. The certification is yet another firm step in the company’s commitment to the three pillars of sustainability; the environment, social equity, and economic viability.

History

Nativa was born in 1995 as a part of Viña Carmen, one of the most prestigious wineries in Chile. Four years later, in 1999, Nativa became the first Chilean wine elaborated with certified organic grapes. From that point on Nativa continued developing wines with Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes from the Alto Maipo Valley, obtaining outstanding international prestige and important recognitions from the specialized press.

In 2007 Nativa begins to work closely with organically grown grape producers from Maipo Valley and in 2008 Nativa receives the first organic grapes from its own vineyards in Marchigüe, Colchagua Valley.

In 2009, the Nativa Eco Wines company was created and it became a part of the Santa Rita Group portfolio, strengthening its solid commitment with organic agriculture, sustainability, and an ambitious plan for the future.

Vineyards

Chile has unequaled conditions for the production of organic grapes. It has four natural barriers that isolate and protect it from external factors (to the north, the Atacama desert; to the east, the Andes Mountains; to the west, the Pacific Ocean; and to the south, the Antarctic glaciers) in addition to the perfect climate for organic agriculture with occasional rain only in winter and moderate summer temperatures due to the ocean breezes and mountains. Furthermore, the valleys have excellent sun exposure.

Nativa organic production system seeks to use vineyard resources as much as possible. It emphasizes soil fertility and biological activity while minimizing the use of non renewable resources. Nativa currently has over 300 hectares of organic grapes production. Synthetic pesticides and fertilizers are not used in order to protect human health and the environment.

Winemaking

Wine evokes dreams, challenges and discovery. Nativa bottles and labels are made from recycled materials, and captured within is the light of our sun drenched grapes and vines. True to our philosophy, Nativa did not compromise the surrounding wildlife or environment with synthetic substances in order to produce the wine nestled in your hands.

The Nativa brand is the essence of sustainable work as well as the incubator for new responsible ecological ideas. Considered an educational reference in Chile and abroad, Nativa will become increasingly stronger in time. Nativa supports institutions that protect native flora and fauna and it actively participates in developing and implementing support programs for organic agricultural producers.
