History

The Sarotto family settled in Neviglie with the arrival of Giuseppe, who was born in the nearby village of Barbaresco at the end of 1700's. Giuseppe was a farmer, and when he died, he left his vineyards to his three sons:
Giulio, Giovanni and Giacomo, and the property was divided into three. Our father, Giacomo Sarotto, began making his own wine and, with the help of his son Giovanni and later his grandson Luigi Giovanni, the business underwent expansion from 1870 to 1930-40.During these years, the family specialised in the production of Dolcetto, exporting it in bulk in wooden barrels as far away as England in the early 1900's.

The export market was lost with the war, and the vineyards were later decimated by the phylloxera pest. From 1950 Luigi Giovanni's son, Angelo, continued working the vineyards, and new varieties, including Moscato, Freisa and Barbera, were planted, but the grapes were sold to dealers until the early 1980's, when Angelo's son, Roberto, graduated from the local wine-making school.Since 1991 all the grapes grown on the estates have been vinified in the winery, and the range of wines produced was extended in the same year with the purchasing of a 20 hectare farm in Barolo wine-growing area.

Further varieties were introduced, including Arneis, Chardonnay, Bracchetto, Nebbiolo (for the production of Barbaresco as well as Barolo), and also Cabernet Sauvignon, which is used to produce the company's most prestigious wine, "Enrico I°", dedicated to Roberto's son, Enrico, who was born in 1993. From the oldest wineyards of our estate we obtain the "Elena" Barbera d'Alba doc, this time dedicated to Roberto Sarotto's second child born in 1998.

Vineyards

Traditional farming methods – slightly modified in order to improve results in the vineyard by means of mechanisation – are followed by the family, with the help of seasonal workers.

One of our main priorities is the attention given to the tending of the vineyards, as we firmly believe that good wine grows in the vineyard and develops in the cellar.

Today it is Roberto that over-looks all of the Estate and the wine production, from the wine making to the jobs in the field. Roberto's Wife Aurora takes care of much of the office work.

As it is a family run winery everyone has their role in the Estate including Roberto's parents that are still active in the vineyards.

Winemaking

Our winery now has a storage capacity of around 5000 hectolitres – including 800 in wood – and is equipped with temperature-controlled fermentation vats, heat-conditioned tanks for the storage of sweet wines, and pneumatic soft pressing, vacuum filtration and continuous flooding filtration plant.

The bottling line is composed of a microfiltration plant, and automatic machinery with a capacity of approc. 2000 bottles/hr. Our winery has a potential output of around 200.000 x 0,75 lt. Bottles.

Our wines: The most important is GAVI for the quantity we produce, followed by wines of great structure like our BARBARBRESCO and BAROLO. We also have Barbera and Dolcetto and other whites like LANGHE ARNEIS - LANGHE CHARDONNAY. One of our outstanding wines is the – LANGHE ROSSO – ENRICO a blend of Cabernet and Nebbiolo. Some particular wines are also part of our production like the sweet white wines: MOSCATO D'ASTI – MOSCATO PASSITO and the red slightly sparkling sweet wine PIEMONTE BRACHETTO. All above mentioned wines are produced from our own grapes.
