History
Salomon Undhof is a mute witness to history. The Capucine Monks, predecessors to the Salomon family at the winery until 1792, had selected the very best vineyard sites, which have been passed down from generation to generation of Salomons. Here the first Estate bottling on record in the greater Wachau area took place in 1932 by Fritz Salomon, Bert´s father. These first wines were already exported to the USA in the late 1930´s. Today Dr. Bertold and Gertrud Salomon represent the seventh generation of the Salomon wine-making tradition. They are already helped by their kids.
Bert Salomon is carrying on the tradion of his father Fritz, who was the pioneer of austrian dry white wine. With his great winemaking experience and respect for the environment Bert produces wines with finesse and perfect mineral balance which reflect the very special micro climate of this lovely river valley.
Gertrud Salomon works alongside her husband as his congenial partner in marketing and sales. After more than fifteen years working in the management of L´Oréal, she has thrown all her professional passion into the world of her husband’s wines.
Bert and Gertrud bridge the old and the new wine world with Salomon Estate in Finniss River Australia.
