History

Uncompromising quality: our noble varietes are grown on steep hills in the various sites of the winery. Organic viticulture, meticoulous handwork in the vineyard, and selective handpicking make up the excellent Sattlerhof aroma.

Cultivating wine means to cultivate enjoyment. This is why we go for uncompromising quality in producing our wines. Our noble grapes are grown in different vineyards of our winery, on steepy sloping hills. Winegrowing in touch with nature, accurate handwork in the vineyards, and selective handpicking, all this ensures an excellent aroma and a marked variety-specific character. In 2013, our winery took the turn toward organic viticulture - a logical decision for making even higher quality wines.

The vintner has always been close with his vines, for many many year. Willi Sattler has been in charge of the vineyards since age 22. His wines have earned him esteem of countless wine lovers and the heed of international media. Tradition and innovation are the roots for the young generation to bring about a wind of changeOur sons Andreas and Alexander have gone through excellent schools and training in the viticultural domain. Our daughter Michaela is responsible for the design of our labels. And the youngest son Lukas is good for many a creative input.

Vineyards

Our vineyards are located in three important wine growing sites:

The site Kranachberg (Große STK Lage®) is situated between the towns of Gamlitz and Leutschach and mainly planted with Sauvignon blanc (approx. 90%). The unique composition of its soils (limey sands with light mica) lends the Sattlerhof wines their unmistakeable spiciness and fruity character.

The site Pfarrweingarten (Große STK Lage®) is a small, but well-protected southward facing basin exclusivley cultivated by the Sattlerhof. Its soil consists of shell and coral limestone and offers excellent conditions for Burgundies.

The site Sernauberg (Erste STK Lage®) is a south-east oriented basin with extremly steep hills and a soil made up of a fine sandy layer with gravel on top. Here we grow mainly Sauvignon blanc and Yellow Muscatel.

New: the first wines from the Kapellenweingarten are out now since 2014. Located at an altitude of 550 m above sea level, it is the highest vineyard of our winery. Its sandy and gravelly soils are ideal for growing Morillon (Chardonnay), Sauvignon blanc and Yellow Muscatel.

Winemaking

Our grapes are grown right at the heart of Southern Styria, and yield exclusive wines that have a grand reputation among top range sommeliers worldwide, due to their authentic character. The key to quality, here at Sattlerhof, lies in a combination of tradition and innovation. Tradition meaning near-natural, committed work in the vineyard. Innovation meaning on-going development of wine making methods, investing in cellar technology , and a consistent implementation of ideas - for an even higher level of typicity in our wines.
