History

The “Caparzo” name seems to originate from Ca' Pazzo, as seen in several ancient maps.
The vineyards, cellars and all wine-making equipment were developed towards the end of the 1960s, with progressive adaptation and constant up-dating of both the land and the cellars.

Vineyards

The vineyards of the Caparzo Estate include c.a. 90 hectares (210 acres) in Montalcino. Caparzo is a hillside area 220 metres above sea level, facing south/south-east: vineyards include about 9 hectares of Brunello,2,5 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 3 hectares of Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Traminer, 3 hectares of Rosso di Montalcino, 1 hectare of Sangiovese Sant’Antimo and 1,5 hectares of Moscadello.

Winemaking

The cellar boasts stainless steel tanks and the most advanced wine-making equipment. The wines are refined in cellars using traditional Slavonian oak barrelsof 50/80Hl and French oak barrels of 30 Hl. Lastly, barriques and tonneaux of 500-700 litres totalling 1600 hectolitres.
