History

It takes real nerve to set up your own Champagne House, when the very first Houses began their existence more than three centuries ago. Alain Thiénot demonstrated real nerve, as well as inspiration and aspiration in doing exactly that.
With almost 20 years experience as a wine broker in Champagne, he had acquired an in-depth knowledge of the vineyards, having scoured the hillsides in the constant quest for wines (that revealed) the finest expressions of each Cru vineyard. He had originally been invited by the major Champagne Houses to seek out only the rare and exceptional from growers, and it was from this experience that Alain Thiénot sowed the seeds of a dream, to establish his own Champagne House.

By 1985, Alain Thiénot had developed his project and launched his eponymous Champagne House. Using his well-established contacts with growers to the best of his ability, he was able to guarantee an extraordinary supply of grappes.
A precision-managed adventure and a challenge that paid off, Champagne Thiénot has found its place among the greatest Champagne Houses, favouring quality over quantity, creativity over traditionalism.
And it is this long road to success that has formed the bedrock of the Champagne House, notably its family values and independence.

Winemaking

It only took a few years for Thiénot to be recognised as one of the great names in Champagne.
A forward thinking and contemporary Champagne House, its inherently family spirit and distinctive style award it a personality of its own. A Champagne favoured by trendsetters, these premium quality Champagnes are found in only selected establishments throughout the world. The classic Thiénot Champagne collection comprises three cuvées: Thiénot Brut, Thiénot Rosé and Thiénot Vintage, which are all cellar-aged for four to eight years to attain their finest expression.

Since the early days, Alain Thiénot has created an eponymous Champagne in his image, he has also crafted a vintage Champagne for each of his children: Cuvée Garance and Cuvée Stanislas. Expressing the most prestigious Champagne Grand Cru and the finest vintages, the wines in this collection are crafted from grapes sourced exclusively from Champagne Thiénot’s Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. They epitomise this family spirit and stay true to the House style, each emanating a distinct personality.

The Day 2 of the Champagne Magazine's yearly tasting: The 100 Best Champagnes 2023 - The level of champagnes is clearly better than, for example, 10 years ago - The average score has risen by more than 5 points. It is also gratifying that the number of corked bottles has dropped to almost zero, when just 10 years ago one out of ten was corked. Five more tasting days left :)

Juha Lihtonen / The Best Scandinavian Sommelier 2003, Pro (Finland)  tasted  1 wines  from  Thiénot . In a tasting of  15 wines

I was so impressed with this super second wine of Blankiet Estate. Such a harmonious and volaptuous wine despite its young age and in terms of its price - this wine is true FIND! The wine is a blend of 51.5% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cab Franc, and 3.5% Petit Verdot. Deep, purple to garnet red colour. Intense nose with ripe brambles and cassis, refined toasty new oak aromas with mocha, cocoa, nutmeg and warm spicies. Full-bodied satiny texture with ripe fruitiness and extremely smooth tannins. Lingering warm and spicy finish with great harmony. Delivers great joy now but will reveal its true colours in next 2029-2034. Perfect match with roasted Pigeon served with parmesan and beetroot risotto. JL 96+p (3/2022)
