Rafael Urrejola. Rafael joined the Undurraga team in 2007 and is the winemaker behind T.H. (Terroir Hunter). In recent years, he has also been in charge of Undurraga’s iconic wine, Altazor. From July 2013, Urrejola is the new Winemaking Manager.
He was formerly the Head Winemaker at Viña Leyda, where he created various internationally recognized Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Carménère wines.
Rafael has travelled extensively throughout Chile and around the world. In his quest to learn more about terroir, he spent many harvests working in vineyards such as Saintsbury winery (Carneros, California), Viña Montes (Chile), Gainey Vineyard (Santa Barbara, California), Domaine Jacques Prieur (Mersault, Burgundy, France) and Paul Ginglinger (Alsace, France). As the winemaker responsible for T.H., Rafael oversees many of the details of the grape growing and wine production process. He carefully selects the individual lots in each vineyard which he regards as having the most interesting soil.
Since 2008, his wines have earned him many accolades. In 2012, he received special recognition when T.H. Pinot Noir Leyda 2010 won the International Trophy International Trophy and Best in Show in the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards 2012 (UK). In March 2010, he was chosen the Best Winemaker of 2009 by the Círculo de Cronistas Gastronómicos de Chile (Chilean Circle of Food&Wine Writers).
In International Wine Challenge 2014 (IWC) he was recognized as one of top 3 red winemakers in the world.
Carlos Concha
Carlos joined the team in 2006 and has since been responsible for the Aliwen Reserva brand. Between 2012 and 2014 he was the winemaker responsable for Sibaris Gran Reserva. In July 2013, Carlos became the winemaker in charge of Undurraga’s portfolio of sparkling wines, including the high-end line Titillum. He is still also responsible for the Aliwen line.
Carlos is interested in developing wines on new terroirs throughout Chile. The Aliwen, which means “Sacred tree” in one of Chile's indigenous languages. Is Undurraga’s reserve line of wines, made for spontaneous and contemporary people, who are always connected. Thanks to the “Sparkling People” campaign, many young people have got to know sparkling wine and come to regard it as an excellent choice year-round.
Carlos has participated in harvests around the world: Spain (Campo de Borja), South Africa (Slanghoek) and California, USA (Sonoma). He loves outdoor activities, especially in the mountains, where he enjoys snowboarding.
Patricio Lucero
Originally from Punta Arenas, Patricio joined Viña Undurraga’s winemaking team in 2009. Since then, he has worked with Carlos Concha on the Aliwen line and with Hernán Amenábar on the Sparkling Wines and premium Titillum lines. He is currently supporting the winemaking team led by Rafael Urrejola, creating the export and varietal wines. As a student, Patricio worked at Viña Misiones de Rengo and Viña Anakena.
He has taken various technical tours, including to Bodegas Borsao, in Borja, Zaragoza, where he was responsible for the harvest and had the opportunity to learn about the winemaking process for different varieties, such as Grenache and Tempranillo. In 2005, he worked in Sonoma Valley at the Sonoma Cutrer winery, which produces premium wines.
María del Pilar Díaz
A young, intrepid, daring and passionate winemaker, is in charge of creating Sibaris Gran Reserva line of wines. She has worked abroad and in Chile with renowned winemakers including Hernán Amenábar and Rafael Urrejola at Viña Undurraga, and Ignacio Recabarren at Concha y Toro.
Her interest in discovering alternative winemaking styles and techniques has taken her on various trips to wine producing areas around the world, such as Marlborough in New Zealand, where she harvested for the Nobilo group, famous for its Sauvignon Blancs; in Burgundy, France, where she made Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for the traditional winery Domaine Roux Père et Fils., and the Napa Valley in the US, where she was involved in a harvest led by Ken Bernards, winemaker at Ancien Wines.
