Historia
When Ian Home founded Yellowglen, he was seeking to create the best sparkling he could in a style that was ‘Australian’. This distinction–and ongoing determination–has remained at the core of the brand ever since.
Grit, ingenuity and sheer determination has moved Yellowglen’s sparkling wines from obscurity to renown. From the first vintage in 1975, Ian Home perfected the traditional method of winemaking. He effectively revolutionised the Australian sparkling wine industry, improving the quality of wine at an affordable price.
Now, just as ever, we are determined to continue to lead the sparkling movement in Australia. It is Yellowglen’s careful balance of heritage and innovation that has made this brand stand out from its competitors and secure the title of Australia’s number one sparkling.
Our drive to seek, to challenge and to create continues to push us to ever-new frontiers.
It was in 1971 that Ian Home planted 21 varieties of vines across 12 acres on the original Yellowglen site, located at Smythesdale, 18km south west of Ballarat. His brand was named Yellowglen in honour of the abandoned gold mine that was discovered on the property. In the 40 years hence, Yellowglen has built a reputation for outstanding winemaking and proudly continues to this day as the leader across Australia in sparkling wine innovation.
