The Story

Côte de Nuits in the year 640 AD as a monastic property. In 1219 it passed to the canons of Langres, who retained ownership until the Revolution of 1789. The name Chambertin has been used since the 13th century and once shared imperial approval with Clos de Bèze - Napoleon would drink nothing else. Vintage 2008

An indifferent spring caused uneven flowering and mildew risk. At the end of June the weather changed for the better, continuing into July. Written Notes

A ripe and wonderfully elegant nose that is quite dense revolves around layered red berry fruit aromas nuanced by a cascade of floral, earth, smoke, meat and spice hints that is followed by generous yet detailed broad-shouldered flavors that curiously manage to be both tender and firm on the classy, long and energetic finish. The vines of Charmes Chambertin are planted to rocky brown soils, partly alluvial and rich in limestones clays, a fortuitous mix which yields harvests of the most extraordinary Pinot Noir. Elegantly perfumed, eloquent and statuesque, the wines of Aux Charmes have been revered for centuries by kings and emperors alike. The proprietors of Dugat-Py have been local winegrowers since the days of the three musketeers, their parcel of Charmes is a relatively recent acquisition, brought to an uncompromising standard of excellence within the life of a generation.
