Written Notes

A moderately deep ruby hue reveals an elegant maturity in the glass. The bouquet is layered and expressive, unfolding with earthy forest floor aromas, toasted walnuts, and a whisper of dried spice, all interwoven with ripe black fruit. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and rounded, exuding leathery warmth and a savory, nutty undertone. The finish is both intense and enduring—flavorful, textured, and seamlessly integrated, offering a lingering sense of depth and refinement. Drinks well already but will evolve nicely for next 3-6 years. Decant for 3 hours and serve from Riedel Winewings Cabernet glass at 17-18C with roasted beef and grilled pepppers. – JL 92p (Nov 2024)

The 2014 season was the third consecutive excellent vintage in Napa Valley, marked by elegance and balance. Wines showed floral aromatics, ripe fruit, and refined structure, slightly lighter than 2013 but highly enjoyable. Winter and spring were mild and dry, with February rains providing crucial moisture. The warm March temperatures accelerated the early budbreak. The summer was warm but not extreme—highs mostly in the 80s–90s °F, with no major heat spikes. Early and smooth harvest, with Cabernet Sauvignon picked in September–October. In August there struck a 6.0 magnitude earthquake, causing localized damage but minimal impact on the harvest.
