Wine Description
The Story
Niepoort launched their first Rosé in 1999, with the aim of proving that Rosés can also be wines of great quality. Produced from old vines and fermented in barrels, the Redoma Rosé is a well-balanced wine best suited as a versatile accompaniment to food. Wine Information
The 2016 vintage proved to be very atypical, with a warm and rainy winter, a cool and very wet spring and an extremely hot and dry summer. The weather conditions led to very early budburst (around 2 weeks early), followed nevertheless by a delay in the vegetative cycle during spring, especially with regard to veraison, which occurred approximately 2 weeks later than usual. Coming from the vines of Quinta de Nápoles and other neighbouring sites, the grapes of the Redoma Rosé were harvested between 25 August and 12 September. After meticulous sorting, the grapes were pressed quickly and at a low temperature in order to avoid oxidation and too much colour extraction. The must fermented in new French oak barrels and matured there for approximately 2 months before it was transferred to stainless steel tanks for a further maturation period of 7 months. It was bottled on 17 May 2017.
Tasting Notes: With its brilliant salmon pink hue, the Redoma Rosé offers an austere aromatic profile, with notes of dried flowers, red berries and a delicate smoky character. The aromas are still slightly shy but vibrant nevertheless, promising to develop further in the bottle and lend themselves very well to food pairings. The palate offers plenty of freshness as well as some body. The wine’s fresh berry notes are balanced out superbly by its minerality, ending in a lasting and delicate finish.
