Written Notes

With its deep, red garnet color, the Niebaum-Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon 1882 leads off on the nose with attractive notes of cocoa powder, black cherry and ripe black plum. Immediately round and supple on the palate, the wine shows ripe flavors of cassis and black cherry, with a deft touch of French oak on the finish. Full and well-textured, this vintage of 1882 is particularly vibrant and fresh, with polished tannins of excellent quality.

The 2018 vintage produced a generous crop of excellent quality. Well-timed precipitation in March and April encouraged slow, steady spring shoot development. Moderately warm temperatures throughout the season were ideal for gradual, even ripening of our Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvest for our 2018 Niebaum-Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon 1882 began in the Fountain block next to the historic Inglenook Chateau on September 19th, and continued at a smooth pace, culminating with blocks from our Cohn and Red Barn vineyards on October 18th.
