The Story
Grapes are meticulously sourced from a number of altitude and maritime vineyards around the Western Cape farmed by passionate South Africans. The small hand selected parcels of fruit receive much love and attention through the growing sea- son with each vineyard’s unique terroir contributing in its own special way to the blend. In the cellar, minimal intervention and old large format French Oak is combined to ensure that the essence of South African terroir is captured in the wines.

“In 2014, the Savage proprietary red once again remains a Syrah dominated blend with supporting roles played by Grenache, Touriga Nacional and Cinsaut. The nose is seduc- tively dark, deep and broody with black bramble berries, mul- berries, tar, grilled herbs and savory, barbecued meats. But like all great wines, there are multiple complexing nuances on the nose: violets, purple jasmine, rose petals. One feels no rush to sni , then move on to tasting. There is a ponderous beauty to the wine. Like the previous three vintages, the Sav- age red shows incredible precision, elegance and poise. The seamless palate over ows with savoury black berry fruits, black plum, cured meats, and tart red cherries on the n- ish. The 2014 de nitely stands out for its incredible nesse, elegance and femininity. Already at this youthful stage, there is such integration and balance making it a true pleasure to drink. I love the ne lacy tannins and fresh acids that combine to underpin the palate.
