The 2012 Angelus (55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc) is inky bluish purple in color and exhibits blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with some licorice, charcoal and graphite. It is full-bodied, ripe, and a great, great success for this estate. The tan

(55% merlot and 45% cabernet franc): Deep, glass-staining purple-ruby. Knockout nose is redolent of fresh cassis, plum, minerals and sweet, spicy oak. Dense and suave, with very precise fl...

Wine Information

2012 was an important year for Angélus: it won the status of Premier Grand Cru Classé “A”, and a member of the eighth generation of our family joined the estate’s Directorate, while 2012 was also the 230th anniversary of the Boüard de Laforest’s arrival in Saint-Emilion. The year also saw extension and improvement work done on the estate on a hitherto unequalled scale.

Vintage 2012

The 2012 Bordeaux vintage report.

The 2012 Bordeaux vintage is a year for vineyard management and workers. Call it a winemakers vintage, or change your tune and call it vineyard managers vintage. Either descriptor works perfectly. Wineries with the financial capacity to take the necessary measures in the vineyards during the season, coupled with the willingness to severely downgrade unripe grapes, will produce the best wines. Written Notes

The 2012 vintage had a tough start with a chaotic spring. Fortunately, July and August were perfect for good grape development. The nose is remarkably intense and the purity of its fruit aromas is amazing. The top quality Cabernet Franc grapes straighten out the wine’s structure and provide a great accompaniment for the velvety, tender Merlot, while contributing elegance and precision to the whole.

Harvest: 8th to 19th October
Blend: 55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc
Drink: 2025 - 2045

Ruby. Cassis, blueberries, almost mineraly, or rather graphite on the nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity and quite elegant body and texture, long. 90-92

Nice deep plum, salty intensity, and inky here, very classic, promising, earthy concentration. The palate is really quite silky and seductive, nicely harmonious, plenty of freshness with good ripe tannins. I like the pretty style here, though it is serious and will be a fine Angélus. 2020-2035. 93-95/100 (£1,950 6x1 IB)
