The Story

Tucked between châteaux Cos d'Estournel and Montrose, the vineyard covers 61 hectares (150 acres) and is planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Overlooking the Gironde estuary, it is mainly located on the gravel ridge of Marbuzet and the plateau of Long Treytin. The high proportion of merlot, rather unusual in traditional blendings, as well as a long maturing in new oak barrels, greatly contribute to the mello...

Château Haut-Marbuzet is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Saint-Estèphe appellation area of the Haut-Médoc.

Vintage 1990

Early, uniform flowering, a hot but unspectacular summer and an exceptionally hot period at the end of August 1990 and the first half of September. Written Notes

Tasted in October 2014. This wine's been a pure delight from early days. 24 years after its birth it still has catching appearence. Delicious nose of sweet blackcurrants, very attractive and captivating, exquisite balance, velvety palate, firm fruity aftertaste. Great to enjoy now as this wine is on its apogeum. I believe there's more than 10 years additional life in this wine!

1990 Tight nose. Berry, cedar and some earthy elements. Bright berry and black cherry flavors on entry. Good intensity and supple on mid palate, but disappoints later on as drying tannins take over, leaving a cedary, gravelly finish. I kept tasting this one because it seemed very promising and yet ultimately not satisfying as it started. Still pretty good. 89 points
