The Story

The name “La Conseillante” appeared in the middle of the 18th century, when the influential Catherine Conseillan, who owned the property, decided to endow the estate with her name.

In 1871, the Nicolas family acquired La Conseillante, whose surface area (12 hectares – 30 acres) and plots have not evolved since, enabling the estate to hold on to its exceptional qualities. In 1960, Louis Nicolas’ heirs formed the Société Civile des Héritiers ...

Wine Information

The robe is slightly aged, but still displays intense depth. The nose is distinct, unveiling superb aromatic complexity, distinguished by notes of varnished wood, plums and blackberries. Next, the nose reveals plenty of fullness and charm, a sign that the keeping of this wine is only just beginning.

Vintage 1990

Early, uniform flowering, a hot but unspectacular summer and an exceptionally hot period at the end of August 1990 and the first half of September. Tasting note

Written Notes

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Harvested from 22 September to 1 October. Yields 48 hl/ha. Fermented in stainless steel, fully temperature controlled and vatted for 28 days. 80% in new French oak barrels for 16 months. pH 3.6.
Tasted blind. Slightly less yellow than the 1985 from 75-cl bottle. Again, like the 1985 from double magnum (rather than the 1985 from bottle), this seems less directly aromatic and more occluded. Hint of putty. Fairly lightweight and a little tired. Definitely drying out on the end. Just a little dull. But slightly resembles 1985 double magnum in structure!

  • 88p

From magnum. Yield 53 hl/ha. Keeping very well, truffles again, stunning elegance and finesse, great intensity and structure. Extraordinary wine.
