The Story

The Léglise family from Libourne founded what is now Château L’Evangile. They were actively involved, around the middle of the 18th century, in building the Pomerol vineyard. L’Evangile appeared in the 1741 land registry under the name of Fazilleau.

Wine Information

Robert Parker JR once wrote: “Wines as L`Evangile 1947 can bring tears to your eyes!”
What a discerning person and gifted foreteller he is – right after the first sip of this divine wine some innocent tears came to my eyes – unbelievable but true.

Written Notes

It had great, concentrated plum and cassis fruit and the slate to balance. It was chocolate city with the Foxy Brown flavors and the Bambaataa finish (that’s a New York thing), but overall it had a soft, satiny impression, easy to drink and mature with a nice kick of acidity on its finish, but its aromatics were greater than its impression in the mouth. It was still outstanding but probably not getting any better

Very deep color. Started off with a touch of cork that grew worse with time. Great concentration of fruit. Should be terrific from a good bottle.
