The Story

The Léglise family from Libourne founded what is now Château L’Evangile. They were actively involved, around the middle of the 18th century, in building the Pomerol vineyard. L’Evangile appeared in the 1741 land registry under the name of Fazilleau.

At the turn of the 19th century, the estate already had much of its current configuration, stretching over some 13 hectares, when it was sold to a lawyer named Isambert. He renamed the estate “L...

Wine Information

Vintage 2010 / After a fairly wet winter, the fine weather arrived to stay in April. Conditions were ideal: hot and dry, with water reserves maintained by a few rainy spells in June and September, while high temperatures combined with cool nights enabled the grapes to ripen slowly and steadily.

The Merlot and Cabernet were thus excellent in terms of quality, but slightly lower in quantity compared to previous years due to the lack of rain d...

Written Notes

This Pomerol displays a dark red colour and offers a remarkable intensity of scrumptious, fresh dark fruits. It gives off pleasant mocha, raspberry, wild strawberry and black cherry notes. Precise, frank and elegant, the palate offers a strong attack with a good concentration of distinguished, ripped, creamy and silky tannins. The finish remainsfresh on the whole which gives a character of aromatic richness to this 2010 Pomerol Evangile. Itr offers a good ageing potential.

The nose is subtle on very fresh Burlat cherry, smashed blackberry and pine forest aromas, conferring this Pomerol an unexpected southern character. The attack is smooth, nervous and gradually gives way to blended, juicy and creamy tannins with elegant grain on the mid-palate. In retro-olfaction, black fruit aromas echo the nose's aromatic palette. This balanced wine is brilliant. One of the best Evangile ever.

  • 97p

A perfect vintage based on 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, presenting a dark purple red colour with garnet red hue and a black core. The nose is very elegant and initially slightly closed but extremely promising with a lot of hidden power. The aroma is reminiscent of dark chocolate, vanilla and hints of toasted gingerbread, backed by blackberries, mulberries and hints of flowery aroma. On the palate chocolaty, with succulent fruit, a wonderful sweetness, balanced tannins, ripe fruit and excellent length. A wine with enormous potential, demanding more time for evolution.

Tasted in May 2013. Excellent intensity of black cherries, grated chocolate, cocoa powder, truffles (iron oxide), very dense and precise, tight and fat on the palate, perfect ripeness of fruit and tannin, long, long finish that lasts for 1 minute. Exceptional stuff.
