The Story

The Léglise family from Libourne founded what is now Château L’Evangile. They were actively involved, around the middle of the 18th century, in building the Pomerol vineyard. L’Evangile appeared in the 1741 land registry under the name of Fazilleau.

Written Notes

Bouquet de pivoine et de rose poivrée, toucher de tannin soyeux prolongé, bouche satinée, finale d’une grande subtilité, dotée d’une persistance aromatique de
grande classe. C’est un pur régal. 95-96

Scernted, blackberries, floral, blueberries, detailed, nuanced, elegant and lifted nose, nuanced.
Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, blackberries, spices, detailed, juicy, elegant texture, lovely balance, long. A superb Evangile and amongst the greatest I have tasted from the estate.

  • 98p

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Sophisticated nose with purity and persistence, elegant fruit reminiscent of ripe blackberries, strawberries and raspberries, hints of ripe plums in the background, subtle oak. Seductive palate with ripe tannins, sweet fruit and elegant spiciness. Fine floral hints adding complexity on the palate. Excellent length with great finesse.

A fine line of tannins runs through this medium- to full-bodied wine. Chocolate, walnut and lead pencil on very fine tannins. Classy and focused, providing elegance with strength. Tight at the end. 78% merlot, 21% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon. 96-97

L'Evangile: 78% Merlot, 21% C. Franc, and 1% C. Sauvignon. Violets, morello cherries, truffles, elegance and finesse, many layers, and a sappy, vibrant, sophisticated, persistent finish. It continues the refined and elegant style first seen in the 2022 vintage. Formidable. 97p.
