The Story

Martha's Vineyard Cabenet Sauvignon
The distinguished legacy of Heitz Wine Cellars spans nearly half a century.

Founders Joe and Alice Heitz embarked on their illustrious journey in 1961 when there were fewer than a dozen wineries scattered across the Napa Valley. With the purchase of their first 8-acre vineyard just south of St. Helena, Joe’s years of intense study and experience quickly translated into a reputation for bold and brillian...

Written Notes

The blackcurrants and blackberries with lavender and rosemary really pop out of the glass. Full body, tight and polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Shows tension and focus with a precise finish. Very finely textured. A classical wine. From organically grown grapes. Try in 2021 and onwards.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is a powerful wine. Beguiling aromatics make a strong opening statement. Pine, rosemary, mint, sweet red cherry, pomegranate and a touch of new oak give the wine its bright, lifted feel. Even with considerable air, and also taking into account the personality of the year, the 2013 Martha's remains closed down and not at all expressive. My impression is that this could have been a materially better wine.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is ruby red and deep. On the nose it is open, intense, youthful, complex, round, generous, refined and rich. The taste is robust, rich, focused, fruity, ripe, fat, toasty, refined, with silky tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with well-structured, well-integrated,satin texture, balanced and complex structure. On the palate it is layered and has spice, smoky, floral, toasty, blackcurrant and blackberry flavours. The finish is long, round, lingering, vibrant, flavorful and spicy. This wine is fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years.
