Written Notes

I remember that at the time, this was the most expensive wine I’d bought—it was £35 from Oddbins Fine Wine store in Faringdon. It’s still a baby, and I opened it before its time, on a whim. Dark, smooth complex nose of tarry, spicy fruit with a bit of cask-like richness. The palate is concentrated, spicy and mouthfilling with fruit and spice, together with firm tannins and fresh acidity. Give it time. Very good/excellent 92/100

Medium deep colour. Fragrant, liquorice, sandalwood, tobacco aromas with herbgarden notes. Well-concentrated sandalwood, mocha, espresso flavours with red plum, redcurrant notes, fine grainy textures, underlying savoury oak. Finishes gravelly and long with salted liquorice, marmite notes. Very attractive complex wine with more development ahead. 13.1° alc. Now-2045 – 97 points
