The Story

Located 2 kilometres northwest of Clare township on the opposite side of the hill on which Jim Barry Winery is located, is home to the famed 'The Armagh Shiraz'. The vineyard derives its name from a nearby hamlet of Armagh, established by Irish settlers in 1849 and named after lush, rolling hills of their homeland.

The 70-acre property was previously owned by Duncan McRae Wood and used to graze dairy cows before being purchased by Jim ...

Written Notes

Crimson red with a magenta hue in the glass. The nose shows intense, fragrant aromas of ripe black fruits, figs, apricot and wet stone with graphite notes. The palate opens with wet stone, ripe berries, coiled tannins and graphite. As the wine opens and relaxes it shows more black fruits and oak, laced with wet stone.A wine of enormous complexity and longevity. A sumptuous Shiraz displaying a lively purple colour with black core. Opulent nose with abundant fruit reminiscent of juicy blackberries, black cherries, ripe plums, fine toasting aroma, hints of liquorice and beetroots in the background. On the palate rich and meaty, yet showing elegance, with excellent complexity, depth and length. Ripe tannins and fine acidity built up an exciting tension complemented by lots of fruit and mild spices lingering in the aftertaste. An impressing wine with great potential.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is ruby red and medium. On the nose it is wide, intense, youthful, pure, rich, refined and complex. The taste is refined, fat, perfumed, focused, robust, toasty, with silky tannins, and average in acidity, full-bodied, with concentrated, perfectly balanced and well-structured structure. On the palate it is layered and has mint, herbs and cassis flavours. The finish is long, spicy, extensive, flavorful, lingering and vibrant. This wine is fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least over 4h before tasting.
