Written Notes

Blending consultant Eric Boissenot. 36 months in 200% new French oak. Unfiltered.
Unnecessarily heavy bottle. Almost black at the core with a dark garnet rim. Smells very ripe, like ripe black cherries and just a little bit toasty. Ripe on the palate too, thick with fruit and massively concentrated. There is no lack of acidity but there is somehow a lack of freshness, as if the fruit was picked just a little too late to be vibrant. Powerful but rounded tannins. Lots of dark chocolate. A massive wine but not as elegant as the Turtles Syrah 2016. For those who like mass over elegance. I am not sure how well this will age but hope I will be proved too conservative. Second bottle is a little fresher but still the fruit is more stewed than in the 2012. Ambitious but flawed. (JH)
