Vintage 2017

SPAIN 2017 Vintage  /Extreme weather was seen across the wine world in 2017 and Spain was no exception. For most Spanish regions there were one or more climatic challenges to contend with including spring frost, drought, untypically high summer temperatures and occasional hail storms. Then, mercifully, the going got easier as more typical weather arrived for the August and September ripening period and generally very favourable harvest conditi...

Written Notes

GRANBAZÁN Albariño Limousin 2017 is the wine produced by this winery that is aged in wood. In fact it was one of the pioneering Galician Albariños that had this aging back in the late 80s.

For its production, grapes from the highest area of the Tremoedo estate are used, with very low yields, where green pruning and leaf removal have been carried out. It is a wine with long macerations of the musts to seek at all times to increase its life and longevity. After the fermentation process and inox, it goes into oak barrels for a period of 4 months.

It is a very varietal Albariño but, undoubtedly, the contribution of the wood gives it different aspects to the other wines of the winery that do not go through barrels.

In view we have a pale yellow wine, very bright and clean in still glass. Golden reflections in movement but without being excessive.

Already on the nose, with a high intensity and great complexity, differences begin to appear compared to the other wines of the winery, since here at first, as we approach the glass, we perceive many aromas of stone fruit, such as apricots, with presence of citrus and tropical underneath, floral contributions and, when we aerate the glass, the barrel begins to come out, with hints of vanilla, marked roasted aromas, light toasted touches (clearly from the wood). The aromatic ensemble is perfectly balanced.

A wine with a very fresh attack and passage through the palate, with a dry finish. An unctuous flow on the palate, with fruit and aging hand in hand. Spicy notes are present on the palate and in the aftertaste. Very good acidity that gives it great persistence and cellaring capacity.
