90-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The attractive, lighter-styled 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon offers up hints of red and black fruits, licorice, forest floor and underbrush. It is not herbaceous, but it has nowhere near the weight, richness, staying power or length of the 2009 or 2010. This should turn out to be an attractive 2011 to enjoy over the next 10-12 years. This is the personal project of Napa Valley’s famous wine consultants ...

Wine Information

For the second year in a row we had a solid wet winter and the rains continued into spring and in fact we had a bit of rain even as late as June. Bud beak, however, was normal, with most buds out by the end of the first week of April. Written Notes

Medium-deep ruby colour with garnet undertones at the rim and good viscosity. A captivating and multilayered bouquet delivers smoky fireplace and charcoal aromas, forest floor earthiness, sage and bamboo shoots lending herbal and vegetal depth, roasted coffee and savory edge. A medium-bodied and vibrant palate shows flavours of toasted hazelnuts, wild raspberries, a touch of cocoa, and savory spiciness. The texture is refined showing silky tannins with balanced acidity. A subtly vibrant with a nuanced finish, echoing roasted and fruity notes with finesse. Decant for 2 hours and serve at 17-18C from Riedel Veloce Cabernet glass. Great match with Roasted lamb saddle with thyme sauce and grilled root vegetables. – JL 93 (Nov 2024)

The 2011 was El Niño year with wet and rainy growing season in Napa Valley. It was notably cool and extended, resulting in a longer ripening period. It was one of the coolest for decades among 1998 and 1972. While challenging for some producers, Levy & McClellan embraced the conditions to craft a wine of refined elegance and aromatic depth.
