Vintage Report: The 2023 vintage was a challenging, cooler, and rainier growing season that demanded absolute precision in the vineyards. A very wet spring followed by late August rains brought unexpected freshness and crispness to the grapes. This enabled Masseto’s second wine—a blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc—to develop an exceptionally juicy, aromatic, and bright profile. The wine was aged for 12 months in oak barrels (50% new) before spending a final four months refining in concrete tanks.
Tasting Notes: The 2023 Massetino shows a bright ruby-red color with vibrant purple highlights. Despite its extreme youth, the bouquet is remarkably open and charming. It offers notes of red cherries, wild raspberries, frothy cappuccino, licorice, and a hint of sweet woodsmoke. The palate is intensely silky yet remarkably structured. It displays a beautiful balance of fresh red berries, lively acidity, and mineral tension. The tannins are ultra-fine and creamy, leaving a mouthwatering, long, and slightly herbal finish that makes it delicious to drink even in its youth.
