The Story

A 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc from a small lot in the northwestern section of the vineyard, planted in 2006. The grapes are harvested at full phenolic ripeness, but still with a high acidity (and there's no acidification taken place at Screaming Eagle since 2005). Written Notes

The Screaming Eagle Sauvignon Blanc 2019 is an exercise in extreme scarcity and unexpected restraint, originating from just a handful of rows within the iconic Oakville estate. In the glass, it is strikingly pale with a silver-green tint. The nose is high-toned and ethereal, eschewing the typical "grassy" tropes of the varietal for a sophisticated profile of white currant, elderflower, and wet stone, accented by a faint, waxy lanolin note.

On the palate, the wine is surprisingly textured and multidimensional. While it possesses a piercing, citrus-driven acidity, there is a distinct weight and "gloss" to the mid-palate—likely the result of meticulous lees work—that brings flavors of white peach, lemongrass, and a touch of honeycomb. The finish is remarkably clean and saline, defined by a vibrating mineral tension that feels more akin to a top-tier Sancerre or white Bordeaux than a typical Napa Sauvignon.
