The Story

Château Grand-Puy Ducasse was classified 5th growth in the famous 1855 classification. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are planted on a gravel soil, typical of Pauillac. Thanks to impeccable harvesting and tailor-made winemaking, Château Grand-Puy Ducasse has all the excellent qualities of a legendary fine wine, renowned for aromatic complexity, glorious structure and ageing capacity, all true to the Pauillac’s style.

Vintage 2020

In Bordeaux, the heat led to early flowering. Additionally, this led to an early harvest after a very hot summer. As a starting point, there is great maturity in the grapes, and we can expect a more opulent vintage than in recent years.

This year's summer was the hottest since 1959, but the rain fell at just the right time during the growing season. The harvest took place two weeks before the norm and will produce grapes with high alcohol potential and the lowest acidity since the 2003 vintage. As they say in Bordeaux: “It was a good and extreme growing season which , hopefully, also produces great wines.”

Intense purple colour with violet hue and black core. Opulent and rich nose with multi-layered character. Aroma reminiscent of ripe plums, juicy blackberries and blackcurrants, black cherries and sloe in the background. Distinct toasting aroma, mocha and hints of cold smoke, a whiff of graphite in the background. On the palate well structured with excellent length and depth, ripe tannins, juicy fruit and discreet spiciness. Distinct toasting flavour in the aftertaste. An opulent yet elegant wine with freshness and excellent length.
