Written Notes

Full bottle 1,313 g. Clay soils at 250 m with regulated deficit irrigation. Free-run juice fermented as a white wine at 16–18 °C in the Cretan ‘Marouvas’ tradition. Two and a half years in used French oak. TA 6.8 g/l, pH 3.43.
Even more bricky in colour than the 2017. As well as that bitter-orange aroma, there’s a more nutty character and a really unexpected little pop-up of toasty struck-match (less evident on the day after opening). Highly complex oxidative aromas: dried cherry, nutty, plus some umami savour. That toasty note is even more evident on the palate on the day of opening but then recedes. A unique style of wine for anyone bored with classic fruity or oaky reds. There’s a sweetness to the finish even though the wine is technically dry. Definitely needs food, and experimentation. (JH)
