Black Magic 2021

Representing the absolute pinnacle of TOR’s cellar, "Black Magic" is a secret barrel selection crafted from the winery’s finest lots across Oakville and Pritchard Hill—predominantly Beckstoffer To Kalon and Vine Hill Ranch. In a legendary vintage like 2021, this cuvée achieves a level of intensity and seamless grandeur that borders on perfection.

The nose is monumental, multidimensional, and spellbinding, soaring from the glass with saturated crème de cassis, black cherry, and wild blueberry liqueur, enveloped in opulent layers of molten dark chocolate, violets, graphite, sweet pipe tobacco, and crushed iron ore. On the palate, the wine delivers astonishing physical presence with weightless intensity. A massive, tongue-coating core of pure black fruit expands with flawless symmetry across the mid-palate, held together by chiseled, ultra-fine, gravelly tannins. Driven by the pristine, energetic spine of the 2021 harvest, it sails into an endless finish that reverberates with espresso, slate, and sweet spice for minutes.

Blackcurrants, blueberries and ink. Crushed porcelain. Graphite dust. The palate is full but hemmed-in and compacted with incredible length. The polish is something else. The tannins melt into the wine at the end. Such impressive quality here. A benchmark. Made from predominantly cabernet sauvignon with a small portion of cabernet franc co-fermented. 150 cases. Crazy to drink this now but you could. But hold it for five years, minimum. Try after 2028.
