Written Notes
Usually seen as the ‘lesser’ of the two ‘Bordeaux Blends’ from Te Mata, this is a deep purple colour. The blend is 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. Quite a vibrant wine, at this early stage. Dark plums, blackberries, dark cherries. Lots of interest here. Taut, young and with very fine tannins. Good length and maintains its intensity right through. Hints of biscuity oak at this early stage but it is melding well. Holds real promise for the future. Awatea never lets you down. It is always an excellent wine and this is no exception.
