Contrary to what is sometimes said, the plots comprising Clos l'Oratoire were not acquired in 1991, but in 1971 (at the same time as the von Neipperg's four first vineyards in Saint-Emilion).

Clos de l'Oratoire extends over 10.32 hectare (25 acre) of Saint-Emilion’s northeastern hillside. It has belonged to the von Neipperg family since 1972, although it wasn’t until 1992 that Stephan von Neipperg assumed control of the estate for good.
