Château de la Rivière has Fronsac's most imposing Château as well as being one of its best producers. The property consists of 53 hectares of vineyards and the wine is typically a blend of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%), Cabernet Franc (12%) and Malbec (8%). The wines are matured in the Chateau's cellars which, comprising of an astonishing 9 hectares, are the largest underground cellars in Bordeaux.
The wines are deeply coloured and display good concentration and length. They are at their best with 3-5 years of bottle ageing.
...The winemaking is done in concrete, stainless steel and wood vats. The alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place for four weeks with temperature control. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in new barrels. The breeding continues for 15 months in barrels. 40% of the wine is matured in new barrels with aging on the lees for 6 months, while 60% of the wine is aged in barrels that are 1 to 2 years old.
