History

Grattamacco, founded in 1977 by Piermario Meletti Cavallari, who has since sold the estate to Colle Massari, sits at the end of a long, winding drive. It's a land with a very unusual microclimate, a windy plain 100m above sea level, where the estate gets 300 sunny days a year and a steady breeze.

Vineyards

The Grattamacco vineyards are situated in an ecological cradle, protected from the strong sea winds. They cover 14 hectares, featuring the following three types of soil: Silt and red sandy soil in the Alberello vineyard, Calcareous flysch in the western side of the vineyards, Sandy calcareous flysch in the eastern side of the vineyards.

Winemaking

Piermario Meletti Cavallari has always been an enophile. He was very content in his wine store in Bergamo but knew that he had a further calling, so he set out to find a vineyard that he could make his own. When he saw Grattamacco he knew immediately that he had found the right place, so he settled in and began producing wine. The 1982 Grattamacco was Cavallari's debut, and his subsequent wines have built him a well-deserved reputation as one ...
