Written Notes

The 1875 Malvasia from Barbeito is one of the greatest ancient Malvasias I have encountered. The bouquet takes no prisoners and leaves you instantly enraptured by scents of juniper and peppermint, and later dried honey, marmalade and quince, all delivered with vigor and panache. The palate displays exquisite balance and a repeat of the Lapsang souchong note that I observed on a previous bottle. The finish displays a sense of controlled decadence. Fabulous. Tasted at a private dinner in London.

Bottle in excellent condition and with normal size. Looking deep, brownish, bright and evolved. Open, intense, mature, complex, refined and ripe on the nose. The taste is rich, fragrant, high in acidity, high alcohol content, perfectly balanced, complex, mature, oxidized, full-bodied and sweet. With apricot, balsamic, cedar, chocolate, honey, dried-fruit, coffee, port-like, viscous, tobacco and tar flavor. Endless, smooth, lingering and flavorful. Recommended. Outstanding and masterpiece. Nice to drink and recommend drinking now. Costs about 200-500€ per bottle. Good value for money.
