Château Brane-Mouton 1784

This estate used to be part of the Lafite estate under the de Ségur family until 1720 when Joseph de Brane purchased it. He changed the name to Brane-Mouton and formed the basis of what was yet to become the legendary Mouton-Rothschild. Joseph de Brane worked hard for this estate and made it very successful, acknowledged as one of the best estates in Médoc just behind the first growths. Brane was also one of the highly esteemed pioneers of Cabernet Sauvignon in Médoc. This particular vintage of Brane-Mouton must have been one of the best ever made under this name. The appearance did not promise much – hazy brown colour with orange hue on the rim. The nose gave such a lovely, surprisingly rich aromas of earthiness, spices and delicate balsamic aromas. Medium-bodied taste with very silky texture. Balsamic notes but still elegant showing hints of spiciness and woodiness in moderately long finish. Absolutely astonishing experience!
