The Story

The 62 hectares of vines of the château Filhot are planted with 60 % of Sémillon, 36 % of Sauvignon and 4 % of Muscadelle. The hillsides face towards the south or the south-west and consist of gravels, clay and sand on calcareous base. They are bordered by the Landes forest and are crossed by Ciron (small local river) which creates the ideal microclimate for the development of the botrytis cinerea on the grapes.

Wine Information

Neal Martin  89-91p / The 2015 Filhot was showing just a little reduction on the nose when I tasted it. The palate feels balanced, fresh and clean in the mouth, a little muted at first but with a few swirls it finds its voice, and I appreciate that dab of spice on the finish. This should come together by the time of bottling and it may warrant a higher mark.

Written Notes

The 2015 Filhot has a rather Germanic, oily bouquet that lacks the definition and purity of its peers. It needs more lift from the glass. The palate is balanced with a viscous opening, more complex and focused than the aromatics suggest with a citrus-fresh, honeyed finish that feels pure and persistent. This could be excellent if the bouquet improved with bottle age and my score gives it the benefit of the doubt. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Golden. Apples, peach, pears and apricots nose. Fresh acidity, fruity, sugary, sweet, has freshness but lacks complexity. 88-90

  • 90p
Medium pale colour. Grapefruit, lime, white flower aromas with herb aniseed notes. Well concentered with good movement and energy. Fresh lemon glacé honey, aniseed flavours, al dente notes and fine long acidity, savoury oak notes, Finishes minerally, touch saline but lovely length of flavour. 93 points
